Our Process & Philosophy

Thank you for your interest in our puppies! We're excited to share our wonderful Irish Terrier pups with you. Our goal is to provide you with healthy, well-raised puppies that truly embody the spirit of their breed.

Our puppies are born and raised in our home. We engage with them daily, starting with Early Neurological Stimulation and following the Puppy Culture Program recommendations. We make sure they're exposed to various sights, sounds, and experiences suitable for their age and development stage. At 7-8 weeks, we conduct puppy testing and have external evaluators assess them. This helps us determine each puppy's personality and potential, so we can make the best match for you.

Wondering if an Irish Terrier is right for you?   An Irish Terrier, (or any terrier for that matter...) is not for everyone.  If you want to be playing fetch in the park and going for off leash hikes, this may not be the dog breed for you. We are happy to answer your questions and make sure you have the information that you need to make the best choice for your family.

What sets us apart from other breeders? Good question. Click here to learn about the "Detmore Difference."

To start the process, we ask that you kindly visit our Good Dog site to see our available puppies and complete our adoption application. Please don't worry – there are no right or wrong answers here. Our aim is simply to get to know you better, so we can match you with the perfect puppy.

Once we receive your application, we like to connect with you via phone, email, or a quick video chat....We understand everyone has busy lives and do our best to accommodate times that work well for everyone.

This gives us a chance to understand your preferences and lifestyle a bit more. If we both agree that one of our upcoming puppies could be a good fit for you, we'll ask for a deposit. This deposit goes toward the puppy's cost and is fully refundable if we don't have a suitable match for you. You can also apply it to a future litter if you prefer.

Generally speaking our puppies go to their forever homes around 8-10 weeks and males are neutered, tails docked, dewclaws removed, microchipped, with an AKC limited registration application, current vaccinations, and health records. Each of our puppies goes home under our basic puppy contract. Click here to view a sample contract.

This is just to give you an idea of what to expect and to address any initial concerns you might have. If you're interested in different goals like performance, breeding, or show, we can adjust the contract accordingly.

If you're not local, no worries – RDU Airport is a short drive from us, and we can accommodate a wide range of options for transporting your new furry family member to you.

Thank you for considering Detmore Kennels Irish Terriers.

We're here to help you find your new furry family member and available to help on your journey.
